Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
5 advanced methods to assess structural integrity without damage
Non-destructive testing (NDT) allows engineers to assess the strength, quality, and condition of concrete structures and pavements without extracting samples or causing damage. This makes NDT indispensable for evaluating existing structures — whether for routine quality verification during construction, condition assessment of ageing infrastructure, or forensic investigation after distress is observed.
NKMPV provides 5 NDT services covering both concrete structures and road pavements. For concrete assessment, our Rebound Hammer (Schmidt Hammer) test per IS 13311 Part 2 gives a rapid estimation of in-situ compressive strength, while the Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) test per IS 13311 Part 1 evaluates concrete uniformity, detects internal voids, and identifies honeycombing. For pavement evaluation, our Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) measures structural capacity per ASTM D4694, and our Network Survey Vehicle (NSV) captures roughness, rutting, and texture data over entire road networks.
For critical structures, we conduct full-scale bridge load tests per IRC SP 51, measuring deflections under controlled loading to verify structural adequacy. All NDT assessments are performed by trained technicians using NABL-calibrated instruments, with detailed reports that include test data, photographs, and engineering recommendations.
