The Casagrande Liquid Limit Apparatus determines the liquid limit of fine-grained soil — the moisture content at which soil changes from plastic to liquid behaviour. Together with the plastic limit it defines the plasticity index used to classify soils for foundations and pavements, per IS 2720 (Part 5).
