The Ductility Testing Machine measures the ductility of bitumen — the distance in centimetres a standard briquette of binder stretches before the thread breaks, pulled at 50 mm/min at 27 °C in a water bath. Ductility reflects the binder's ability to deform without cracking, per IS 1208.
What this equipment tests
- Ductility of paving bitumen at 27 °C
- Binder flexibility / adhesion assessment
- Grade compliance for road bitumen
Applicable Indian Standards
- IS 1208 — Determination of ductility of bitumen
- IS 73 — Paving bitumen — specification

Frequently asked questions
What does ductility measure?
How far a bitumen sample stretches before breaking — an indicator of its flexibility and resistance to cracking.
What are the test conditions?
Pulled at 50 mm/min at 27 °C in a temperature-controlled water bath, per IS 1208.
