The Direct Shear Test Apparatus determines the shear strength parameters of soil — cohesion (c) and the angle of internal friction (φ) — by shearing a specimen along a predetermined horizontal plane under a range of normal loads. These parameters drive bearing-capacity, retaining-wall and slope-stability design. Testing follows IS 2720 (Part 13).
